This year�s keynote speaker is Dr. Lawrence Zbikowski, Associate Professor of Music and the Humanities in the Department of Music at the University of Chicago, where he also serves as Deputy Provost for the Arts. His 2002 book Conceptualizing Music: Cognitive Structure, Theory, and Analysis (Oxford University Press) was the winner of the Society for Music Theory�s 2004 Wallace Berry Award. Dr. Zbikowski has written extensively on the application of cognitive science research to music theory and analysis, including articles on music and emotion, musical gesture, and music and dance.
Call for Papers
GAMMA-UT is soliciting student papers dealing with any aspect of music research and analysis in the areas of music theory, musicology, and ethnomusicology. Prospective presenters should submit an abstract of no more than 250 words to gammautconference at gmail.com by Wednesday, January 1st, 2014. Please include your name, email address, institutional affiliation, and student status. Papers are to be approximately twenty minutes in length and will be followed by a ten-minute discussion session. Applicants will be notified of the program committee�s decision via email by Wednesday, January 15th, 2014.
